JUNE: Ken Poehner Ken has been volunteering with us for a year and a half. He has become our “ACE Clean-up
Guy” for Saturday afternoons, helping with the Feeding Families Program! Ken is a success
story of another type; he first found us online through Feeding America. He made financial
donations to Feeding America, then wanted to know more about his local food bank. That
would be us! In real life, Ken is an optical technician at Research Electro Optics, but
every other Saturday afternoon he’s here helping families pick out their food, and when the
program is done he becomes the most sought after volunteer because he does clean up!
Thanks, Ken for “batting” clean-up for us!
JULY: Kyle HowellKyle is a senior at Niwot High School. For the past two summers he’s been here 2 or 3 times
a week to volunteer in the warehouse. He also drops in on Tuesday afternoons during the
school year and brings his Boy Scout troop in for special projects. This summer he often
trained and supervised volunteers who sorted grocery store donations and he was part of our
newly formed Quality Control Team, preparing non-perishable food for our distribution
programs. Kyle became our “go to” guy and helped out at Elder Share distribution sites. It
was a sad day for us when Kyle went back to school! But he promised to help us again,
supervising sorting crews during the November “BAG Hunger” food drive.
AUGUST: Judy Schilling Judy has been volunteering with us only since March, but she’s managed to help us with a
wide variety of jobs. She’s worked with Feeding Families, as an Elder Share site and route
driver, site coordinator, assisted in the warehouse checking non-perishables for Quality
Control, helped with office details, and she always seems to be available for more! Judy is
very active in her church, First Congregational Church in Boulder, and volunteered with patient
care for Hospice Care for Boulder and Broomfield Counties. She is a Reiki Therapist and has
been a Language Teacher and Medical Administrative Assistant. We are indeed lucky to be the
benefactor of all those skills! Thanks, Judy!
SEPTEMBER: Mona Doersam Mona came to us six months ago through the Volunteer Connection. She was an “empty-nester”
wanting something useful to do. “Music to our ears!” Mona is experienced in designing
computer applications. She recorded hours in the volunteer database and has now charmed the
program into spitting out new reports and accessing email addresses, to contact volunteers
more quickly and for less cost. If you were one of our 500+ food drive volunteers this
spring, it was really Mona that scheduled you and confirmed your job via email! She also
volunteers her computer skills to the Louisville Historical Society Newsletter, Louisville
Elementary School Fundraising Committee, and the Centaurus Girls Basketball Team website.
