Stock Donations
Thank you for considering a donation of stock to Community Food Share. There is an advantage to donating stock, rather than cashing it out and donating the money. If you donate the stock, you can claim the full market value of the stock as of the day you donated it as a charitable gift, and you do not have to pay capital gains tax. If you cash it out, you have to pay capital gains tax on the stock.
It is very easy to donate stock. Just follow the steps below.
Step One
Contact your brokerage house and instruct them to wire transfer ______ # of shares of _______ stock in your portfolio to Community Food Share. Indicate that the gift is to be transferred to Community Food Share's account at the Wells Fargo Investment Services office, 1801 13th St., Suite 200, Boulder CO 80302. Our broker is Matt Winters. Please call Matt at (303) 541-2035, or Angie at (303) 541-2023 for further instructions. Thanks!
Step Two
Notify our office of this transaction. This is an important step if you want an acknowledgement of the gift. Our brokerage house does not receive details about donations when a wire comes in, and we won't know who it came from unless you let us know.

We will send you an acknowledgement of the gift that you can use for your tax records. Donations to CFS are tax deductible, as we are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Our tax ID# is 74-2227731. Valuation of the gift (fair market value) is determined by the donor. The fair market value is the average price between the highest and lowest quoted selling prices on the valuation date (the date you transfer the stock).
THANK YOU !
